20 IIITs Yet to Launch Dual Degree Programmes

Twenty Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs), which are under the Public-Private Partnership, are yet to launch dual degree programmes, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, the Union Human Resource Development Minister informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.

As informed, infrastructure for the same is in developing stage which is causing the delay. When asked if the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) mean to launch dual degree courses as per its demand in the marker, Pokhriyal replied to the House that Allahabad, Jabalpur, Kanchipuram and Gwalior which are funded by the Centre are already offering dual degree programmes.

He further added that infrastructure is still in developing stage in the 20 new IIITs set up under the Public-Private-Partnership mode and the other one which is centrally funded at Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, thereby resulting in an inability to start dual degree courses.

The Board of Governors of these 20 IIITs are empowered to introduce dual degree courses or any new course, he stated.

Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) are autonomous institutes of higher education in India that focus on information technology. Five IIITs are funded by the Ministry of Human Research Development (MHRD) and the rest are established on the Public-Private Partnership model.

IIITs are deemed one of the top colleges which come right afterIndian Institutes of Technology (IITs)andNational Institutes of Technology (NITs).

According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 rankings by the MHRD, IIIT Allahabad stands at rank 91 in the list of top engineering colleges in India.
