The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently issued a notification regarding the changes made in this year’s Central Teacher Eligibility Test or CTET exam pattern. The latest changes, that have been made in the CTET 2021 exam pattern, are under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, where one of the clauses mention the need for “strengthening of TET to inculcate better test material, both in terms of content and pedagogy”. Keeping the clause in mind, CBSE has introduced some changes in the CTET 2021 exam pattern within the existing question paper structure and syllabus.

Major Changes in CTET 2021

The following pointers aim at explaining the list of changes made in the CTET 2021 exam by the Central Board of Secondary Education in a simple manner -

  • The question papers will be designed in a manner that will evaluate the critical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, application and conceptual understanding of the test-takers

  • The emphasis will be on assessing the candidates’ understanding of teaching the subject, their pedagogic content knowledge, their knowledge relevance of the subject in their school curriculum and other dimensions of teaching the subject

  • The mode of exam will be online

It has also been notified by the CBSE that the upcoming CTET exam (CTET 2021 exam) will be conducted in online mode during December 2021/January 2022. In addition to saving time and paper, it is easier for the evaluators to evaluate the candidates in an online mode of examination. This will also mean that the CBSE will release the CTET 2021 result quickly.

The online CTET 2021 exam schedule is expected to be issued very soon. The online CTET examination this year will be conducted under strict restrictions given the current situation of the country due to COVID-19. Last year, the CTET examination was conducted in January 2021 with around 26 lakh students appearing for both papers. In Pre-Covid times, CTET was conducted twice every year - in July and December. Also, recently it was announced that the CTET score will remain valid for a lifetime instead of 7 years.
