From the state of Maharashtra, 15 non-agriculture as well as Deemed Universities, have been given a green signal to fill up their posts for teachers and teacher-equivalent posts. As per sources, the Universities across the states will be allowed to fill up 80% of the total vacant posts available, which is currently expected to be filled up in a span of 6 months. A statement from the government has announced that the decision had been delayed due to s some confusion regarding the process of filling up the posts, i.e. department-wise or in accordance with the total number of vacancies available.

Sources have stated that 659 seats out of a total of 1,166 seats from the vacant posts across the universities in the state will be filled up. A notification also stated that the University of Mumbai will recruit teachers for 136 vacant posts out of the 211 seats available at the college.

The statement further said that the posts of teachers, especially of associate teachers will be put on priority. Furthermore, the selection of the teachers will be based on the academic eligibility of the candidates as well as the academic qualifications, and the experience quotient of the candidates will also be measured, as per the regulations that have been set by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the University of Grants Commission (UGC). Along with the parameters set by AICTE and UGC, the deemed and the non-agricultural universities will also be required to comply with the reservation policies of the government.
