A reverse trend in the Education Pattern for India, as the number for Study Abroad students coming to India for higher education increases. New Zealand Students visiting India for pursuing graduate and post-graduate degrees has gone up in the last few years. This year, the highest number of intakers of the Prime Minister Scholarship for Asia (PMSA) were students from New Zealand.

In 2013, PMSA was initiated by the Government to attract study abroad students to India. Since then, 236 New Zealand Students have got the PMSA, out of which, 82 students are to receive the award this year. A variety of courses are preferred by New Zealand study abroad students in India raging from four weeks to three years. Ayurveda & Social Media courses are the choicest ones, according to the NZ Embassy. The data released by the NZ Embassy also gave the details of students currently studying in India, check below:

The NZ education system also keeps on updating its systems to welcome more Indian students to the island. Out of hundreds of Indian students studying at NZ, 32 got financial support worth 8.2 million in the form of scholarships and grants. Among those 32 candidates, 30 are pursuing postgraduate courses and 2 are pursuing undergraduate courses from NZ universities.

The Regional Director of Education in the Asia Region in NZ, John Laxon commented that most of the Indian Students coming to NZ Universities opt for traditional courses like Science, Technology, Commerce and Management. The number of student VISA applicants has increased from 600 to 14,000 in the last two years.

New Zealand has also made changes in the work VISA for students completing their studies from NZ Universities. Now, NZ university graduates will enjoy the benefit of open VISA after completing their graduation for the next 3 years.

The efforts put in by the educational systems of both India and New Zealand is giving rise to a new culture of Study Abroad for students.
