Student-Centric Culture Fosters Success for KIIT & KISS

KIIT (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology), deemed-to-be university in Bhubaneswar is regarded as the youngest institution that emerged as one of the leading universities in India. KIIT is home to 27,000 students from diverse backgrounds, cultures and states across the country. KIIT is the world’s largest tribal university. Students from 50 countries are a part of KIIT family. KIIT was established in the year 1992 and became a multi-disciplinary institute within five years of its establishment. The institute has always been proving to be a top institute for quality education by securing ‘A’ grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). KIIT secured ‘A’ grade for three times consecutively.

The brand value of KIIT has secured a major boost after B.Tech courses bagged the accreditation of Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), United Kingdom (UK). Despite being a young university, KIIT has achieved a milestone by securing the 250^th rank in QS BRICS World University Rankings 2018. KIIT is the first self-financing deemed university in Eastern India and Odisha to enter into the top 250 league of QS Rankings.

Founder of KIIT & KISS, Professor Achyuta Samanta has always been a role model for the students of KIIT. He is the source of motivation for the students who worked hard for establishing KIIT & KISS, a free residential institution for 37,000 tribal students. Over 10,000 alumni of KIIT are associated with the institution and rendering their valuable services. Students of KIIT will have unique qualities like compassion, morality and ethical conduct. Adding to the achievements, KISS has been featured in two popular textbooks used in cultural anthropology and introductory anthropology courses in the United States of America (USA).

KIIT has been remarkable for its activities and concern towards conserving the environment. Recently, the institute received ‘Energy Globe World Award 2017’ for its unique green initiatives. Over 178 countries competed for the award, and KIIT emerged successful in the field of environment.

KIIT also provides great exposure to students by inviting eminent personalities, legal luminaries, academicians, scientists, policymakers and corporate leaders. KIIT Knowledge Tree organises Nobel Lecture Series annual through which eminent Nobel Prize winners are invited to KITT to deliver a talk and interact with students. In 2017, four Nobel laureates including Professor Erwin Neher, Professor Hiroshi Amano, Professor Muhammad Yunus and Dalai Lama delivered talks on different topics. It is one of the best unique initiatives to motivate the students.

Last year, Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu delivered the convocation address at the 13^th convocation ceremony of KIIT.

The 14^th Dalai Lama has been conferred KISS Humanitarian Award on November 21, 2017. He was on a three-day visit to India. During his visit to KIIT, his holiness Dalai Lama interacted with the staff and students of KIIT. Two eminent judges from International Court of Justice, Justice Dr. Danveer Bhandari and Justice Antonio Augusto Cancrado Trindade also visited KIIT & KISS to deliver lectures.

Apart from academics, KIIT gives equal emphasis to sports and games. So far, KIIT has been successful in producing athletes Dutee Chand and Amiya Kumar Mallick who took part in Rio Olympics 2017. KIIT students Aparajita Gochhikar and Kiran Manisha Mohanty are well-known names in international chess circuit.

KIIT has produced thousands of achievers in varied fields. A Class III student, Mamata Dalai brought glory to the Odisha state, as well as, KIIT by bagging National Bravery Award 2017, which was awarded by President of India. She drew the attention of the nation after she rescued her cousin from the jaws of a crocodile.

As far as campus placements are concerned, KIIT has been recording highest placement record for the 14 consecutive years. The 2018 graduating batch of B.Tech (over 3,000 students) will be offered 2,200 jobs by more than 70 companies. So far, 75% of students of 2018 graduating B.Tech secured job offers. Over 350 students secured multiple offers and feeling secure about their career. The placement percentage is expected to increase, as many companies that took part in placements are yet to announce the results. The institute is hoping 100% placements for 2018 graduating B.Tech batch.

KIIT organised ‘Day Zero’ Dream Campus Drives where more than 500 students bagged jobs in top multinational companies like Deloitte, Microsoft, Dell, Amazon and World Quant. Over 800 students secured jobs on ‘Day One’ of campus placements from three reputed companies such as Infosys, Wipro and Accenture. The highest annual salary package offered was Rs. 39 lakh, while the average salary package stood at Rs. 5.25 lakh per annum.

The degree offered by KIIT has turned out to be valuable for students. Most KIIT students secured admissions in international universities located in Europe, Australia, UK and US. KIIT has also produced numerous IAS officers,entrepreneurs, Olympians, beauty queens, actors and Chess Grand Masters.
