All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Kharagpur (Indian Institute of Technology) for institutional collaboration in medical services, education and research outreach programme.
The aim of the MoU is to promote collaboration and interact with scientists, faculty members and students of the two premier institutes in their respective domains. Both IIT Kharagpur and AIIMS will take up collaborative research, joint supervision of doctoral and masters students and joint research & academic programmes.

Apart from the above, the joint academic activities that will be taken by AIIMS and IIT Kharagpur include M.Sc-Ph.D, MD-Ph.D and Ph.D. The two premier institutes will also take up coordinated internship programmes and enable students to explore opportunities for undertaking joint research projects. The premier institutes will seek funding from external agencies (if necessary) for joint research projects.
The MoU will facilitate AIIMS and IIT Kharagpur to use each other’s facilities, exchange and analysis of data for research and education purpose on mutually acceptable terms and conditions. As per the mutually agreeable terms, both the parties must respond appropriately for ensuring privacy and protection of data shared in the process.

AIIMS and IIT Kharagpur will also take steps to raise funds from national and international funding agencies, government and other funding bodies. The funds will be utilised for joint research projects, joint academic programmes and others. The MoU is expected to boost the research output of AIIMS and IIT Kharagpur.
