IIT Dhanbad has announced admissions for its full-time as well as part-time Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme that are offered in various disciplines for the phase 2 of the 2016-17 batch. IIT Dhanbad was earlier known as Indian School of Mines. Under the bill approved in parliament by Central Government, the institute got the status of Indian Institute of Technology in August 2016.
Ph.D. Programmes are offered in the following subjects/streams:
- Humanities and Social Sciences
Educational Qualification for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme:
- Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences programme:
For the programme, candidates must have a Master of Business Administration (MBA)/ Master of Commerce (M.Com)/ Master of Philosophy (M.Phil)/ Master of Arts (M.A) or equivalent degree from a well-recognised University or institute.
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering programme:
Aspiring candidates must have a Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree from a UGC recognised university or institute.
- Ph.D. in Management Studies programme:
Aspiring candidates must have a postgraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Industrial Engineering and Management/ Industrial Engineering/ Civil Engineering/ Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a UGC recognised university or institute.
Selection Procedure for Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme:
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their score and marks secured in-
- NET Rank
- BTech from IITs in respective discipline
- GATE Score
- JRF Entrance Examination (JRFEE)

Application Fee Details:
Candidates belonging to general category will have to pay INR 2000 as registration fee while the fee is INR 1000 for the candidates belonging to SC/ST category.
