Popular Indian author, Chetan Bhagat, spoke at an interactive session organised by an engineering college in Kolkata and talked about the importance of marketing. He told the students that getting high scores in board exams is not enough. Apart from good scores, students must know how to market themselves, the national best-selling author added.

Chetan Bhagat was speaking at the 'Impact of Digital Co-creation in Business Revolution' session. Emphasizing the importance of communication, he said that an individual who scores high marks but cannot communicate finds it very difficult to get a job in the market.

Giving the examples of Americans, the author said that the Americans are excellent in marketing. He also added that the education system must train the students to implement the knowledge gained through education in real life. He also added that students should not aim for marks but should understand the subjects taught in school for improving their analytical skills.

Giving the example of the study of Vasco Da Gama’s visit to India in 1498, he said that students are satisfied by the fact that he visited India and expanded is reach while they should be trying to figure out how he communicated with people in a time when there were no channels for distant communication.

Mr. Bhagat asked the students to not be afraid of struggle and keep working hard to succeed. He also asked to not burden themselves with performance and to learn with each experience.

Chetan Bhagat is an alumnus of IIT-Delhi and IIM-Ahmedabad who worked in the investment-banking sector for 11 years and then quit his job to pursue his dream of becoming a writer.
