Delhi University Seeks Suggestions for Amendments in Ordinances for PhD & M.Phil Courses
Delhi University is seeking suggestions from various experts and academicians for amendments in the ordinances for M.Phil & Ph.D. courses. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed DU to bring certain changes in the rules and regulations.
A senior official of the university said that UGC had sent updated guidelines for Ph.D. & M.Phil courses in July. He mentioned that the updated amendments have been published on the official website of DU for suggestions which can be sent till October 5, 2016.
Last year, the varsity had updated its ordinance by UGC Regulation, 2009 & 2010 which stated minimum standards and procedure for award of Ph.D. degree and minimum qualifications for the appointment of other academic staff in universities and colleges. Earlier, the admission process for Ph.D. programmes varied from department to department, and it was made mandatory to admit the students only through entrance test.
As per amended norms, after the successful completion & evaluation process for awarding Ph.D. to a candidate, the University shall submit a soft copy of the thesis to UGC within thirty days. The university is also working constantly to check plagiarism. However, the teachers said that the process of eliminating plagiarism should start from the top.
