Delhi University’s Academic Council had made a proposal for introducing a School of Public Policy and Governance. The School will first begin its life as a research centre, as per the information gathered from the minutes of a meeting that had been conducted on 21st June 2019.
As per the reports, the research centre will be known as the Delhi School of Public Policy and Governance. It adds that the school is a step towards the efforts that are being put in by the University of Delhi to add to the improvement of the quality of the governance and the policy-making in today’s modern and more difficult world. DSP&G or Delhi School of Public Policy or Governance will act as a platform for the academicians along with the practitioners to gather in one place and discuss as well as study and research various ideas that will help in battling the upcoming challenges that are coming up in the domestic as well as international policies and policy-making techniques.
Apart from being a home to the researchers, the school will also be providing short-term courses for these practitioners such as policy and law-makers who are currently working in different government bodies. It added that the aim of catering the courses is to provide the knowledge as well as the skills that are required by the practitioners to understand and solve the emerging challenges in this discipline.
In a statement made by Tanvir Aeijaz, a faculty of Public Policy of Ramjas College stated that the plan to introduce the school was in the works for a long time. He added that the course will initially be catered to the research scholars, honorary people along with the visiting scholars from different Universities both Domestically and Internationally. He also stated that the subjects of importance under the school include political science, law, sociology as well as economics, with Political Science being the primary subject in focus.

The school also aims at providing a platform to the teachers and researchers from other departments/colleges of Delhi University for the purpose of conducting research under the discipline. Sources state that the teachers or researchers will be able to do their normal jobs but they will also be allowed to conduct research work on Public Policy and Governance.

The proposal also stated that the functioning of the school will be governed by a Governing Body which will constitute of a Vice-Chancellor or his Nominee as the Chairperson, along with area coordinators and an advisory council as well. The School will also see representatives from some of the prominent institutions for Public Policy and Governance as well.
