Accommodation Issues of DU Students Solved by Modern Tech-Driven Student Housings

A major concern of students who come from different parts of the country to enrol themselves in the University of Delhi (DU) is the availability of furnished, modern, and safe accommodation. Finding proper housing for such students has become easier now as in the recent years some organised and modern methods of accommodation have come up apart from the traditional forms of hostels, shared apartments, and paying guests (PG).

Due to digitalisation, the hostel and PG industry are witnessing the birth of some startups like Oyo Living, Coho, Stanza Living, and Nest Away that have changed the way hostels and PGs operate and have become extremely popular among students. They provide proper accommodation to students while allowing the parents to keep an eye on their children, thus providing a safe house to them.

These startups have the facilities of biometric entry, text message updates to parents, mobile app based selection of food and room maintenance etc. They have spread themselves in the residential localities of the North and South Campus of Delhi University. These accommodations are basically concentrated in the areas of Kamla Nagar, Vijay Nagar, and Shakti Nagar in the North campus and in Anand Niketan and Satya Niketan in the South campus. There are already over a thousand students who are being catered to by these student housings.

The monthly rent of these housings varies between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 per room, depending upon the amenities offered and the location. The rent is higher for single seater rooms and is less for students who opt for double or triple sharing rooms. They provide 24 * 7 CCTV monitoring, choice of menu, creative interiors and other modern facilities. The rooms are furnished with beds, mattresses, pillows, almirahs, study tables, chairs, bookshelves etc. for each student separately. An attached bathroom is also provided with each room.

The parents of the student get a text message if he/ she reaches late or after the last entry time that is set in the accommodation. If a student has to stay out till late at night, he/ she has to apply through the mobile app and his/ her parents have to approve of it.
