Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Indian Institute of Skills (IIS), Kanpur. The institute was inaugurated on Monday, December 19, 2016. This is the first IIS of the nation that has been started in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The aim behind starting such institutes is to make India the skill capital of the world. Other IIS will soon be started in the nation to bring together the talented youth of the nation.
PM Modi came up with the idea of IIS during his visit to Singapore where he also visited the Institute of Technical Education. The institute will help in the development of this IIS.
Institute of Technical Education, Singapore has been working in collaboration with the Skill Development Ministry to get the institute started. Six more IIS will be started by the ministry in the near future.
The Kaushal Pradarshini i.e. the skill exhibition was also inaugurated by the Prime Minister. The exhibition has also been started for the youth of Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh is progressing in the education sector and had been focusing on the growth in higher education. According to the report recently released by CII-Deloitte, out of the total enrolment of 342.1 lakhs students, the maximum enrollments are made in Uttar Pradesh.
60.6 lakhs i.e. 17.7% of the total students enroll for higher education in Uttar Pradesh. The state tops the charts whereas stated like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu come next.
