GD Goenka University organised a Special Convocation Ceremony of 29th March 2019 at the Stein auditorium, Indian Habitat Center, New Delhi. Many eminent personalities including Mrs. Kajaria and Mr. Nipun Goenka, (MD of the GD Goenka Group), Dr. Suku Bhaskaran (President), Dr. S. Shantha Kumar (Pro-Vice Chancellor), Prof. Nirmal Kulkarni (Director, School of Architecture & Planning), Dr. Nitesh Bansal (Registrar) among others were part of the Special Convocation Ceremony.
The convocation ceremony was organised for the recognition of Shri. Raj Rewal’s extraordinary contribution in the field of architecture in the post-independence India. His contribution to the field of architecture in India is phenomenal. He took architecture beyond heritage and history and experimented with various modern concepts. To honour his contribution, GD Goenka University awarded him with an honorary doctorate.
Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Architects also felicitated Shri Raj Rewal during the event for his outstanding contribution and for being one of the oldest members. Shri Vijay Garg, Acting President of the Council of Architecture expressed his thoughts during the event and talked about the contribution of Raj Rewal to Indian architecture.
Shri Raj Rewal during his acceptance speech expressed his gratitude towards the university and for the recognition and award. He talked about Indian architecture and the role it plays in society in general.
Shri Raj Rawal is the name behind some of the unique architectural styles and buildings. He is also the architect for Hall of Nations in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. During the event, the varsity also hosted a panel discussion Chintan 2019. The panel discussion was about Contemplating Built Environment after the convocation ceremony. The renowned architects from all over the country debated about contemporary heritage.
Students of the School of Architecture and Planning, G.D. Goenka University were responsible for organising the event and for panel discussions.
