Gujarat Budget 2018: Govt Grants Rs 506 Crore for Welfare of Educationally backward classes

Gujarat government made a special provision of Rs. 506 core for the Gujarat Binanamat Educational and Economical Development Corporation. This corporation deals with the welfare of educationally and economically backward classes and groups of the state.

The Gujarat Binanamat Educational and Economical Development Corporation has been established with an agenda to spread awareness and promote welfare of educationally and economically backward families and groups. The corporation provides support to 58 castes that fall under the category of unreserved classes in the state of Gujarat.

Nitin Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of the State, stated that the special provision of Rs. 506 crore is made for 58 castes such as patidars, vanik, khamar, soni, lohana, kshatriya and others. He also mentioned that a provision of Rs. 1.28 crore has been set up for the welfare of Binanamar Ayog. It was last year on 27 September 2017 that government after meeting Patidar leaders made a decision to set up a welfare commission of these backward castes. These backward castes are the ones one which did not get any reservation. The judicial commission was headed by a retired High Court judge.

The government has also made other provisions for the SEBC- Socially and Educationally Backward Classes in the budget 2018. These provisions include free accommodation and boarding for up to 73000 students. It will also provide 1.6 lakh girl students with free cycles and the facility of the loan to 320 SEBC students. Government is also planning to provide coaching to the students belonging to SEBC for preparation of NEET, NIFT, PMT, GUJCET and others.
