IIIT Delhi Organises International Symposium on 'Digital Politics in Millennial India'

IIIT Delhi Organises International Symposium on 'Digital Politics in Millennial India'

IIIT Delhi (Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology) and LMU Germany jointly organised an international symposium titled ‘Digital Politics in Millennial India’ from March 15 to March 17, 2018. The three-day grand event took place at the New Academic Block of IIIT Delhi. The international symposium was a platform for digital media activists, researchers and scholars to unpack the internet media as objects of state policy, vehicles of propaganda, effective affinity spaces, rumour machines and information sources.

On Day 1 of the international symposium, the introductory speech was delivered by Assistant Professor at Centre for IT Society (IIIT Delhi), Mr. Shriram Venkatraman. Director of IIIT Delhi, Mr. Pankaj Jalote delivered the welcome address followed by Media Anthropology Professor at LMU Germany, Sahana Udupa gave opening remarks.

As a part of the international symposium, the keynote address was delivered by: -

  • Professor of Anthropology & International Studies at University of Miami, Mark Allen Peterson
  • Popular Rapper & Singer, Sofia Asharaf

The formal proceedings on the Day 1 of international symposium concluded with closing note delivered by Assistant Professor at IIIT Delhi, Aasim Khan.

The international symposium also witnessed discussions on the following topics: -

  • Policing and Violence
  • Regional Politics and Digital Power
  • Negotiating from the Margins
  • Datafication: Use and Misuse
  • Civil Society and Counter-Publics
  • Millennials in Digital India

The Day 2 and Day 3 of the event were filled with panel discussions and keynote speeches on the above themes. Popular personalities from around the world expressed their views on the given themes.
