IIT Delhi (Indian Institute of Technology) and AIIMS New Delhi (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) have signed an agreement to set up Biomedical Research Park in Jhajjar – Haryana. The agreement will focus on interdisciplinary research for a ‘robust healthcare’. The pact between IIT Delhi and AIIMS will also include a joint Ph.D. supervision programme and provision for adjacent faculty for AIIMS and IIT Delhi.
AIIMS and IIT Delhi have already started working on 20 projects. Some of the popular research projects that are being initiated by the two institutes are in the areas of development of drug delivery system, advanced materials, robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Dean of Research and Development at IIT Delhi, BR Mehta revealed that the work on Biomedical Research Park is yet to commence, but the work on 20 research projects is already underway. For promoting research in these areas, AIIMS and IIT Delhi will use their own funds for research. With a motive to start the work on setting up Biomedical Research Park as early as possible, AIIMS and IIT Delhi did not apply for special grants from the government, he concluded.
Until September 30, 2018, AIIMS and IIT Delhi will accept applications for joint proposals. The MoU will provide a detailed framework to all the collaborations. The agreement will open up new opportunities to work together on a larger scale.
