IIT Delhi to Organise Social Awareness Campaign, Rendezvous 2016

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi is going to organise Rendezvous – 2016, an annual fest. Under this, a social theme is picked up ever year. This year, the theme selected by the Institute is 'Pehchaan' (identity). Last year, it was child labour. The primary objective for choosing ‘Pechaan’ is to create awareness about the LGBTQ community, body shaming and gender stereotyping.

Himanshi Gautam, Social Coordinator of the fest, said that no one in the world could define what beauty is, whom one should love or how to behave. Stereotyping- of the body, gender or sexual preferences lowers the confidence of youth.

She also mentioned that social campaigns have more responsibilities than engaging with the crowds and spreading the message. The awareness programme will not only consist of discussions but also a gay parade, free hugs, anonymous masked confessions, and a girl’s cricket match with boys as cheerleaders.

Lead coordinator of the fest, Rishabh Sanghi said that acid attacks would change the life of a girl, and the fest focuses on creating awareness about it.
