IIT Hyderabad Aims to Increase Research Fund to INR 200 Crore by 2024

The current fund for research at IIT Hyderabad is INR 50 crores. The director, Professor B.S. Murthi determines to increase the ranking of the institute not only at the national level but also at the global level.

The newly positioned director for Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad aims to increase the income source for the institute and increase the research fund to INR 200 crore by the year 2024. The current fund for research at IIT Hyderabad is INR 50 crores.

Currently, IIT Hyderabad ranks in the 8th position for Engineering Institutions category in Ministry of Human, National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019. The director, Professor B.S. Murthi determines to increase the ranking of the institute not only at the national level but also at the global level. Adding to this, IIT Hyderabad also aims to contribute to the list of top 400 engineering institutes, whereas currently, it stands in between 600-800 list ranking.

Professor B.S. Murthi was appointed as the new director for IIT Hyderabad in August 2019. On January 30, 2020, in the presence of Prof. C. Krishna Mohan, the Dean of Corporate and Public Relations, IIT Hyderabad, Professor Murthi unveiled the 'IIT Hyderabad's Vision for 2024'. Through the vision, he shared some of the future prospects which the professor wants to bring for the institution.

These prospects for future also included an increase in terms of incubated startups at IIT Hyderabad from 20 to 50, the number of companies included in IIT Hyderabad park from 5 to 40, the strength of faculty to double of the present strength, and finally, increase in the number of students from 2830 t0 5000.

Further, IIT Hyderabad is also focusing on enhancing the industrial relationships through various summits such as semester-long internship for b.tech, Industry projects for MTech/PhD students and integrated industrial lectures for students.
