The US-based IIT Kharagpur Alumni Foundation has announced foreign internships for 14 students. The internship scholarship is for candidates who have received offers from top global universities in the year 2018. As per the statement, students of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur from various disciplines have been awarded foreign scholarship and research programmes at various prestigious institutes of the world.
The foreign internships are a part of the IIT Kharagpur Foundations Award Program for International Internships. This program was launched earlier in the month of March. It will provide outstanding students with a chance to pursue research abroad which will provide them with international exposure and great career opportunities.
As per the scheme, IIT-KGPF is a nonprofit organization. The headquarter of the same is located at Nebraska and is offering a grant up to $ 3,000. It is a monetary support which is being offered to meritorious students of the institute. The scheme will help the students who wish to pursue international research and opt for professional internships abroad. The scholarships will be processed through direct payments for expenses such as stay and airfare. Since most of the students are unable to pursue foreign internships due to few grants available and the expenses are too much.
Kaustav Brahma, B.Tech ECE, IIT KGP is one of the students who has received the scholarship for an internship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology- MIT this year. He said that this is one of the best initiatives as the cost of living and other expenses are so high due to which most of the students are unable to take up research abroad.
