Indian premier institutes such as IITs and IIMs have been taking up numerous initiatives to connect with former students. These institutes have recognised the significance of alumni networks. One of the major strengths of any higher learning institute in India is a strong alumni network. In the recent years, alumni of premier institutes made donations for the development of their campuses, set up incubation centres and providing career guidance to current students. On the other hand, the annual alumni meet of various institutes is going global.
For instance, IIM Bangalore’s annual alumni meet ‘Anusmaran’ was held across 18 cities across the globe (8 in India and 10 overseas) in May 2018. Alumni of IIM Bangalore who are engaged in jobs/ businesses in Sydney, Stockton, Dubai, Tokyo, London and New York participated in the annual meet and recalled their memories with IIM Bangalore.

Another important event of IIM Bangalore that connects students and alumni is ‘Back to School’. The event connects alumni of the premier institute via webinars from anywhere in the world.
IIM Ahmedabad is one of the premier institutes that receive continuous support from its alumni. Recently, the alumni of IIM Ahmedabad contributed for the restoration of Heritage Campus at IIM Ahmedabad. Synchrony is the initiative of the premier institutes that connects alumni by organising meet-ups between senior students, alumni and incoming students.
SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, located in Mumbai is one of the popular non-IIM institutes in India, which connects with alumni through an online webinar series titled For Alumni, By Alumni.

Kolkata-based JD Birla Institute organises Caritas, an exhibition that features the products made by alumni of the institute. Similarly, the popular B-School in Kolkata organises Alumni Holi Meet every year.
Alumni of IIM Bangalore, IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati have set up funds to help economically weaker and differently abled students. Alumni mentor students and add value to the institutes as experts and consultants. In all, alumni can be considered as the prominent stakeholders of an institution.
