More than 28,000 people have registered for a five-week app building online program launched by Indian Institute of Technology-Madras. The free of cost program will commence from September 5, 2016.
The program is conducted by a collaboration of IIT Madras and Hasura and welcomes all aspirants above 13 years of age. It is part of a start-up company that is governed by an alumnus of the institute.

Professor Gaurav Raina, a faculty member of the institute in charge of the program said that they want to see the enthusiasm among the people regarding technology. The aim is to impart knowledge related to technological skills that are necessary for solving the local and global problems, he added. He also said that it is a lab to land model. It can help in landing a job or can be treated as a hobby.
Apart from the video lectures, the official website of the program will also provide various resources that will help in the learning process for individuals that are not tech savvy or have very little programming knowledge.

Tanmai Gopal of Hasura said that this is an attempt to close the gap between academia and industry. the program will be able to mix the theoretical as well as practical approach and at the end of the program, students will be capable enough to design their own apps.
Students completing the program will also be provided internship opportunities by 17 companies including MasterCard and Swiggy.
A certificate will also be issued to students by the institute on paying a fee of Rs. 1000.
