IIT Madras Ties Up with Australian University for Research in Metallurgy

  • IIT Madras has collaborated with Australia based Deakin University for research in the field of metallurgy.
  • The Centre of Excellence will provide students with numerous innovation-related opportunities and a chance to study joint research and doctoral programmes.
IIT Madras Ties Up with Australian University for Research in Metallurgy

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has joined hands with the Deakin University of Australia for research work in the field of metallurgy and manufacturing materials. The Centre of Excellence will provide students with numerous innovated-related opportunities and a chance to study several joint research and doctoral programmes in the field of metallurgical and materials engineering. The center will also offer sponsored internships to the students. The institute has already offered internships to students from the smaller institutes around the city.

Philip Dalidakis, Minister for Trade and Innovation, Victoria officially inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing at IIT Madras on Wednesday, 15th March. It was in the year 1994 that Deakin University came to the Indian Market.

Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras expressed his happiness regarding this association and stated that it was one of the oldest and most developed association. He also said that it is a moment of pride for the association to take forward the relationship between research and development. For him, the main aim is to work towards innovation startup.

However, B.S. Murty, Professor at the Dept. of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at IIT Madras said that this association is not only to promote innovation but also to conduct various joint research and doctoral programmes. It will also offer paid internships to students which will provide them with the knowledge and training in the field of metallurgical and materials engineering.
