IIT Ropar and Punjab Government Signs MoU for Skill Development

As many as 10 Government ITIs, 05 Government Polytechnics, Shri Gobind Singh Skill Institute at Chamkaur Sahib and state Engineering colleges at Ferozepur and Gurdaspur will receive academic mentorship from IIT Ropar. 

IIT Ropar and Punjab State Government Signs MoU for Skill Development

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Punjab Government for skill development purpose. If the statement released on behalf of the Government is to be believed, then through the MoU, the technical education department of the IIT can become an academic mentor to various engineering colleges in the state of Punjab. The colleges which will receive the academic mentorship are 10 Government ITIs, 5 Government polytechnics, Shri Guru Gobind Singh Skill Institute at Chamkar Sahib and state engineering colleges of Ferozepur and Gurdaspur. 

In addition to providing academic mentorship to the government engineering colleges in the state, a model polytechnic and a model ITI will come up in the state in which the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar will play a major role. 

S K Das, the Director of IIT Ropar has suggested that a defence manufacturing corridor should be set up by the State Government with the help of IIT Ropar. The Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh has assured that he will discuss the same with the centre.

The Hon’ble CM has requested help from IIT Ropar in manufacturing of small devices to check the wastage of water during irrigation. IIT Ropar Director has promised full support to the state government in this regard. 

The land acquisition-related issue is to be taken care of by Vini Mahajan, the Chief Secretary of Punjab, as ordered by the Hon’ble Chief Minister. Capt. Singh has requested the Institute to bring up a green campus. 

The Punjab State Government has also sought support from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Amritsar in skill development promotion. According to the director of IIM Amritsar Ramamoorthy Nagarajan, various short-term courses would be organised for the officers including taxation, business management, excise and others.
