IIT Ropar to Involve Punjabi Diaspora in its Programmes

Giving details about the future activities, Prof. Sarit Kumar said that a high-level team from the institute will visit Singapore and Australia from April 22 to May 3, 2017, for offshore recruitment of faculty.
IIT Ropar to Involve Punjabi Diaspora in its Programmes

Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar Prof. Sarit Kumar Das revealed that Punjabi diaspora would be involved in the various programmes offered by the institute. The institute is trying to improve its global outreach and has therefore formed a council of global associates of IIT Ropar that also includes the Punjabi diaspora. A meeting on the same will be held in Canada in September 2017.

Prof. Sarit Kumar explained that the institute is seeking the help of Punjabi diaspora for various specialised programmes as they have also shown a keen interest in helping the institute through image building and funding in the past. He also expressed that IIT Ropar is bestowed with best faculty members from India as well as abroad.

Giving details about the future activities, Prof. Sarit Kumar said that a high-level team from the institute will visit Singapore and Australia from April 22 to May 3, 2017, for offshore recruitment of faculty. The visit will also enter into significant collaborations with foreign universities.

Speaking about the strength of faculty members, Director of IIT Ropar mentioned that the current strength of faculty is 100 and the target is to increase the faculty strength to 120 by July. The institute is also aiming to increase the students’ strength to 2,500 by 2019. The current student strength is 800.

Speaking about future developments, Prof. Sarit Kumar revealed that the intake of various courses would be increased from the next academic session. As per the plan, the student intake will be increased in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science courses.
