Indian Institute of Technology, Tirupati will soon offer MS/ Ph.D. courses from the next semester which is set to commence in July 2017. IIT-Tirupati was one among the third generation IITs that were announced in the year 2014. Currently, IIT-T is offering B.Tech in civil, electrical, mechanical and computer science engineering streams. IIT-T has been functioning in a temporary campus located at Renigunta.
Director of IIT-Tirupati, Mr. K.N. Satyanarayana revealed that the institute is to take up large-scale appointments of permanent faculty members in February. IIT-T will make research its top priority to attract and retain qualified and skilled talent. The major research areas of IIT-T are design and education technology, IT and communication, material science, energy, food technology and smart infrastructure.
He further explained that they would appoint the best faculty members. The construction work of permanent campus is underway, and the institute is going to come up on 530 acres land in a village named Merlapaka. The permanent campus will have a hostel which will consist of 600 beds, workshop, laboratory, dining hall, classrooms, indoor stadium, playground and others. All these facilities will be ready by the next academic session, i.e., 2017-18. The estimated outlay for the development of IIT-T is Rs. 2,500 crore.
Mr. Satyanarayana also stated that he prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for developing a campus which can accommodate 2,500 students and the proposal is under consideration of the HRD Ministry.
