Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati's (IIT-G's) R&D unit called Kovid Labs (of Hyderabad) launched an Industry-Academia Research Partnership to provide state of the art facilities in different areas of higher learning. This partnership is expected to provide different facilities in the following areas like:
- Artificial intelligence
- Statistical machine learning
- Cognitive computing
A press release from IIT Guwahati said that Research and Development wing of IIT Guwahati, Kovid Labs, whose Head Office is Hyderabad-based Kovid Laboratory of Kovid Group will jointly promote the collaboration with research scholars and faculty members. They will work for the development of an advanced cognitive computing platform.

The Director of IIT Guwahati, Prof. Gautam Baruah, had recently inaugurated Kovid Labs in presence of several dignitaries like
- Nixon Patel, Global CEO of Kovid Group
- Prof S R M Prasanna, Dean R&D of the institute
In his message, Prof. Gautam Baruah said that this partnership would usher a new era in the field of cognitive computing research. It will also fulfil the long needed pending demand of the research students of the institute.
CEO Nixon Patel said that they were looking at some world-class products to be developed at the new Kovid Labs of IIT Guwahati Research Park. The move would extend the frontiers of the technology.

IIT Guwahati is the sixth institute of technology of the country established by the Government of India in 1994 under the provisions of Assam Accord between Central Government and All Assam Student Union. The institute started functioning from 1995 with its first batch of students. The first batch of students was enrolled for the MTECH Programme through GATE in 1098. Spreading over on the bank of Brahmaputra river the campus of IIT Guwahati is of the beautiful campuses of the country.
