IITs Likely to Blacklist 20 Startups this Placement Season

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are set to blacklist 20 startups and some of the e-commerce companies which changed the job profiles or altered salary terms for the graduates who were selected last year. A warning letter will be issued to all these companies. Some of the companies even deferred joining dates.

One of the leading e-commerce portal Flipkart will get a warning letter for delaying the date of joining for the IITians hired last year. However, the company will not face a ban for conducting recruitments as it did not withdraw the offers. The decision was taken by All-IIT Placement Committee (AIPC).

The list of the companies or startups under Blacklist will be published in two weeks by the committee. The committee apparently stated that this kind of behaviour by companies would not be tolerated. The heads of all the twelve IITs were present in the AIPC meeting conducted at IIT Kanpur. The meeting was held to discuss the placements for 2017. However, IIT Bombay did not attend the meeting.

According to the decision taken by AIPC, the startups will be grouped into three. The companies which withdrew the offers will be completely barred from the placements. Last year, Zomato was banned from placements after a spat over placement slots.
