Post the CBSE’s decision to conduct 12th boards from August 01-20, JEE Main 2021 April and May exams are likely to be deferred to July and August 2021. Read to learn more.
JEE Main 2021: As per the sources, NTA is likely to shift the JEE Main 2021 exam from April and May session to the end of July and August. This decision of NTA has been taken post the CBSE decision to conduct the class 12th board exams in 19 “major subjects” from August 1-20. The decision to defer the JEE Main 2021 exam has been influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country and the timeline of the 12th board exams.

CBSE is yet to decide on either of the two options: one is to conduct 12th board exams from August 1 in 19 minor subjects based on the performance in the exams taken and two is to conduct the exam in two phases (July 15 to August 1 and August 5-26) by giving the option to the state of choosing between these two windows depending on the pandemic situation in the respective state. In case the board exam is conducted in two modes, the JEE Main 2021 exam for the April session will be shifted to the 2nd week of July and the May session may be shifted to September.

This will also affect the admission to Engineering & Technology programs at IITs and NITs as JEE Main exam will be conducted by IITs only after the JEE Main is conducted. The states are liable to submit their preferred options to the Ministry of Education by Tuesday and further, CBSE will review & finalize the options by June 01.
