After receiving the Letter of Intent for ''Institution of Eminence'' (IoE) Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University (KIIT) has announced that it will spend ₹200 crore to set up a research centre to promote disciplinary research.
As per statements made by an official from the varsity, the plans are to set up a research centre that will focus on multidisciplinary research. The official added that the varsity will be conducting research in the areas that promote social responsibility among researchers and scholars.
As per the words of Dr Achyuta Samanta, the founder of KIIT and KISS, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has sent in a Letter of Intent to award KIIT University the tag of Institute of Eminence. He further added that the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University is not only one of the 10 private universities in India to have been awarded the tag but it the youngest University to have received the Letter of Intent.
The multidisciplinary research centre will be called the Central Research Centre, on which the institute is ready to spend ₹200 crore. He further added that among the research areas that will be focused upon at the Central Research Centre include issues on water, environment, energy, healthcare, material and medical sciences.
Mr Achyuta Samanta further added that the Letter of Intent has brought in a greater responsibility to provide its students with a higher standard of education while also promoting research and innovations. He added that the institute has a responsibility of becoming a “world-class educational hub”.
The Lok Sabha MP, Mr Samanta further added that the institute currently has enrolled a nearly 1000 students from 53 countries. He also stated the international students are pursuing different undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at the institute. Furthermore, he added that the necessary efforts and changes are being made to attract more international students to the varsity.

Among the benefits that KIIT will receive with the status of IoE, Mr Samanta stated that the varsity will be able to collaborate with various educational institutes in India and abroad. This will further help the overall development of the students as well as the teachers. He added that the Institute will also be able to design its own curriculum while also carry out the recruitment process of its faculty members.

Among the other private universities who have been issued to Letter of Intent for IoE tag are Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, VIT Vellore, Jamia Hamdard, BITS Pilani, Manipal Academy of Higher Education are also included.
