Hamdard National Foundation (HNF) founded Jamia Hamdard (JH) in 1989 as a Deemed-to-be university. The Ministry of Ayush has approved Rs 10 crore for a three-year grant to Jamia Hamdard University to establish a center of excellence in Unani medicine.

Jamia Hamdard University is building a center of excellence in Unani medicine to do advanced research in the field. The Ministry of Ayush has allocated Rs 10 crore for the establishment of this center over a three-year period.

The experiment was funded by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine and the Ministry of Ayush, according to M Afshar Alam, Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard.

According to a statement released by the university, the project will include the creation of a research center with advanced facilities for drug testing and quality control, the organization of international conferences, the generation of data for scientific validation, monograph development, modernization of dosage forms, IPR generation for new products, and training of Unani professionals.
