The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) is a deemed university in Bhubaneswar and it is among the few Indian universities that have entered the list of Times Higher Education (THE) World University Impact Rankings of 2019. The Times Higher Education released the first edition of World University Impact Rankings 2019 on 3rd April 2019. It included more than 450 universities from across 76 countries of the world and was made after assessing all universities against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
The only university from eastern India and Odisha that is self-financing and has made it to this prestigious global ranking list is KIIT Deemed to be University. The institute has also secured an impressive rank in last year's Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 which also assesses all the research-intensive universities from over 86 countries across all their core missions.
The Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings are unique and the only global performance tables that evaluate universities against the scheme of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. As per the ranking report, KIIT has been placed at high ranks on parameters of sustainable development such as Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Partnership for Goals (SDG 17). KIIT secured a position within the bracket of 101-200 in the parameter of Reduced Inequalities, 201+ in the category of Peace and Justice and Strong Institutions, and 301+ in the parameter of Quality Education. The overall rank of KIIT in impact ranking is above 300.

KIIT became an institution for professional education in 1997, which was 22 years back, and it became a university in 2004. In spite of not being an old establishment, KIIT still managed to secure a place in the coveted global ranking list. Some other universities of South India have also made it to the list including IIT Bhubaneswar.
