Maharashtra Government has decided to cancel the final-year exams for the university and college students. Maharashtra government Disaster Management Committee has taken this decision to not go ahead with the exams for the final-year students.

Maharashtra University Final Exams Cancellation

Maharashtra government Disaster Management Committee has taken a decision on July 13, 2020, to cancel the exams for the final-year students. The meeting was chaired by CM Uddhav Thackeray. The decision has been taken to not conduct the exams due to COVID-19. In a meeting which was held earlier, the same decision was taken but UGC had revised its guidelines and had asked all the states to conduct the exams within the next 2 months.

Uday Samant, the Higher & Techincal Education Minister said that they have conveyed the same to the UGC and they are not against conducting the exams but due to the current situation caused due to COVID-19, it is a big risk and they cannot take it as students' lives will be at stake.

According to the committee, if a student wants to take the exams, the state government will conduct it at a later stage once the COVID-19 situation gets better. Samant has also requested for the HRD Ministry's and UGC's support in this regard.

The exams were earlier supposed to take place between July 01 to 30, 2020. However, with the current situation in the state, the government wasn't sure about conducting the exams in July. Maharashtra CM directed the higher education department to figure out ways through which exams will be made optional for final year students. In simple words, the government is planning to find an alternative way of assessment instead of conducting exams for final year students.
