Many students have returned to NIT Srinagar after the notice of reopening of the institute only to bring the news of them leaving the institute. He informed that the third semester was ongoing and many students including him had to submit the course projects. He said that he found a way out as he submitted the project in IIT Kharagpur. The same thing has been done by many students of the institute.

Many students are also looking forward to completing their classes from elsewhere as the situations in Kashmir do not seem right yet after the shutdown has been revoked.

A civil engineering student from Delhi, Mr Viksit Sharma who returned to NIT Srinagar only to de-register from the courses has said that based on his JEE Score, he has got admission in the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University of New Delhi. Still, many local students could not recieve the notice despite giving advertisements in the local newspapers. One such student said that the newspapers do not come daily so he had to visit the institute to know it will open shortly. He informed that among the 90 students in the class ass per the official enrolment number, only 8 are attending the classes now.

NIT Srinagar resumed its classes almost after two months. The premier institute was shut down until October 15, 2019, due to government's decision to revoke Article 370. As announced by MHRD, NIT Srinagar resumed classes on October 15, 2019, and witnessed only 60% of attendance from students. Out of 2,892 students, only 1,802 had reported so far.

The communication systems were cut and the fate of Kashmiri students also became uncertain as the educational institutes were shut down due to the chaos. The centre also bifurcated the former state of Jammu & Kashmir to the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

Mr R Subramanyam, who is the higher education secretary of Ministry of HRD informed that NIT Srinagar will again commence its classes from 15th October.
