NLU Delhi released a notification setting aside 50% of its seats for the domicile category. Here are the entire details of the revised reservation policy of NLU Delhi.
National Law University (NLU), Delhi released a notification of AILET 2020 and has set aside 50% of the total seats for Delhi students. NLU Delhi conducts the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) to screen students for admission to the course of B.A. LL.B (Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D only at the Delhi campus of NLU. The AILET 2020 notification released by the university was the same as last year, except for one key change that caught the attention of all the aspirants. The domicile reservation grabbed the eyeballs as NLU Delhi announced that 50% of the total seats will be reserved for the students of Delhi for the five-year-long B.A. LL.B programme and one-year-long LL.M. programme. The provision for the domicile based reservation has been the key highlight of the notification.
On releasing the AILET 2020 notification, NLU Delhi mentioned that out of the total 110 seats for the B.A. LL.B. five-year-programme, the university has reserved the 50% seats for the Delhi based applicants. The same rule applies for the LL.M. programme for which a total of 70 seats are available.

Apart from the mentioned reserved seats, NLU Delhi has also reserved seats for the direct admission of foreign nationals. 10 seats for B.A. LL.B. (Hons) and LL.M. each have to be set aside for that purpose. For the Ph.D programme, 2 seats need to be reserved for foreign nationals. Various other law universities have also adopted the domicile reservation policy. NUJS Kolkata, NLSIU Bangalore, and NALSAR Hyderabad are few such universities that have provided 30%, 25%, and 20% domicile reservation respectively.

While the local students have been delighted after hearing the news but many faculty members and students have expressed their apprehension by calling the domicile reservation a threat to the national characteristic of the law universities.
