Prof R.K Sinha of Patna Science College received PadmaShri for his works in saving the Ganga dolphins, also known as the ‘sons’ of the river Ganga.
The Dolphin man from Patna University, Prof RK Sinha is hoping the National Dolphin Research Centre is set up at the university as soon as possible and is looking to develop a young research team to carry forward his work. A pioneer in the preservation of the Schedule 1 animal for the past three decades, Sinha’s work featured in the list of Padma Shri awardees announced on Monday. Buoyed by the distinction, Sinha hopes his focus on dolphins will motivate others to work on saving the Ganga mammal.
The professor said that he is very thankful to the state for helping him in his re-search. He also expressed his deep desires to promote the research in the area and build a team to carry forward the re-search team.
Author to dozens of research papers & books on dolphins, Prof. Sinha had been working to protect these national aquatic mammals since his college days, in the 1970s. His re-search works were also on the subject of the 2 of the French filmmaker Mr. Christian Gallisson’s projects apart from the “Alert on the Ganga”.
