PU to Conduct Entrance Test for Migrating Engineering Students

The Panjab University Syndicate has given its approval for conducting the PU Migration Entrance in Engineering Test (PUMEET) for candidates who have finished the first year of the bachelors of engineering (BE) course from any other institute, recognised by the PU.

PU to Conduct Entrance Test for Migrating Engineering Students

The Panjab University Syndicate has approved of conducting the Panjab University Migration Entrance in Engineering Test (PUMEET) for those candidates who have successfully completed the first year in their Bachelor of Engineering course. PUMEET is also applicable for those students who wish to change their branch. The candidate must belong to any one of the institutes that are recognised by Panjab University.

The idea for the test had been proposed by a team of Panjab University recognised institutions comprising of the Joint Academic and Administrative Committee PU Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Centre (PUSSGRC) Hoshiarpur, Dr SS Bhatnagar and others.

Candidates who wish to apply for the migration entrance test will have to achieve a minimum aggregate mark of 60% as well as a score in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) that was conducted in the previous session. The question papers for the entrance test will consist of Multiple Choice Questions. The candidates will have to attempt 100 MCQs in 100 minutes. The PUMEET will be conducted in the last week of May 2019. The result to the entrance test is expected to be announced mid-June this year. Candidates will also have to appear for the counselling session for the admission process which will is expected to take place in the first week of July this year.

Panjab University will also be conducting its tests for lateral entry in engineering which is also known as Panjab University Lateral Entry in Engineering Test (PULEET) in its University Institute of Engineering and Technology and University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, along with the PUSSGRC and Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology.

The academic and the administrative committee have proposed that the candidates who wish to apply for the Lateral entry at their university must be able to obtain a minimum aggregate mark of 35% the one and a half hour entrance examination. The test will comprise of 90 objective type questions which will carry no negative marking. The test will also be conducted in English.

Those who have passed the PULEET will be called for a group discussion along with a personal interview. The merit of the student will be based on the marks obtained by the student in their qualifying examinations along with the Panjab University Common Entrance test, the group discussion and the personal interview.
