Centre has notified the honourable Supreme Court that the remaining CBSE Board Exams of Classes 10th and 12th will not be conducted.

With the rising number of COVID-19 cases across India, a group of four concerned parents has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the CBSE’s decision of conducting the board exams. Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had released the revised schedule for pending class 10 and 12 board exams and the exams are to take place from 1st July to 15th July 2020. However, educationists, parents, and students are tensed about conducting the board exams amidst the pandemic and the number of cases rising in India. The CBSE pending exams for class 10 and 12 are cancelled due to COVID-19.

CBSE Pending Exams Verdict: Live Updates:

25th June 2020, 2:34 pm: CBSE will release the fresh academic year notice on 26th June 2020.

25th June 2020, 2:28 pm: CBSE to publish class 10 and 12 results by July 15.

25th June 2020, 2:14 pm: The CBSE pending class 10 and 12 board exams cancelled. The result will be announced on the basis of students' performance in the previous examinations.

25th June 2020, 2:07 pm: As per schedule, the SC hearing on CBSE pending exam has started at 2:00 pM and the court is expected to announce a verdict shortly thereafter.

25th June 2020, 1:53 pm: 30 lakh students await SC verdict on CBSE pending exams. The decision regarding the pending CBSE class 10 and class 12 board exams will be announced shortly.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will inform the Supreme Court about its final decision on the remaining CBSE class 10 and 12 board exams on June 25th, 2020. The Supreme had earlier asked CBSE to consider scrapping the remaining CBSE class 10 and 12 board exams and to announce the result on the basis of internal assessment. The final decision regarding the pending CBSE board exams will be announced today.

The Solicitor General Appearing for the Centre and the CBSE informed that the decision-making process is on the final stage and the final decision will be released on 25th June.

According to the sources, the HRD Ministry is re-thinking and may announce the cancellation of board exams and is working on an alternate grading system. To maintain the social distancing norms, DU has requested various school education boards to share their respective links for the Class 12 Board exam results. The requests were made in order to facilitate the online verification of documents for 2020 DU Admissions.

The four parents, Col (retd) Amit Bhatla, Poonam Singla, Charu Singh, and Sunitha voiced their worries regarding the decision of the Board to conduct CBSE Board exams amidst the current COVID-19 pandemic.

In the plea filed by the four parents, they raised the lack of safety of the lakhs of students appearing for the board examinations with regards to their exposure to the novel virus. Voicing their concerns, parents advocated the cancellation of the board examination, which had been stated as per a May 18th notification released by the CBSE. The plea further requested the court to sustain the exams from being held until the decision regarding the exams has been finalised.

With the current pandemic, the cases in the country have been drastically increasing by each day. Experts state that, presently, COVID-19 cases in India have reached close to 3,00,000 across the states. Post the CBSE examinations, if they are held as per the notification, it is expected to witness a surge up to 5,00,000 cases or more, sources state.

However, certain leniencies have been put in place by CBSE, in order to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus. Among them, CBSE has announced that the board examinations will be held in the “Home Schools” of the students. In a recent notification from the board, CBSE also announced that the students will have the opportunity to change their respective exam centers.

Along with these leniencies, the students have been urged to take the necessary precautionary tips and carry face masks and hand sanitizers in transparent bottles to the respective exam centres, while also adhering to the social-distancing regulations put in place by the government.
