To promote and encourage entrepreneurship among students, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will be offering a new PG diploma course in entrepreneurship. An MoU was also signed regarding the same between the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Enterprise (CIIE) at SPPU and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) for offering joint certification courses in entrepreneurship.
The course will comprise new venture and innovation management and is likely to create an understanding and awareness about entrepreneurship in a big way for the students. The head of CIIE at SPPU, Dr Apoorva Palkar said that this partnership is likely to fetch top-class entrepreneurship education from the 'best faculty' and EDII mentorship support.
SPPU had earlier planned to offer a one-year PG Diploma course - Diploma in Innovation and New Venture Management in which students would have to propose an idea for a start-up with some proof of concept and ready to enter incubation. Those who go for a job can avail opportunities in innovation centres. The course will be completely online. According to the SPPU officials, the course timing is appropriate considering the current crisis due to COVID-19 and economic slowdown.
Dr Nitin Karmalkar, SPPU's VC said that the university had established the CIIE to encourage start-ups, not just in the university but also through the college ecosystem where they have more than 300 start-up cells. This is a step in the right direction for creating 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. EDII Director-General, Dr Sunil Shukla said that EDII is glad to have signed an MoU with SPPU after recently collaborating with IIM Jammu and IIM Ranchi.
