Graduate of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad, Himanshu Jain secured the 44th rank in the UPSC Civil Service Exam 2016. A resident of Haryana’s Jind, he turned down a package of Rs. 22 lakh offered by Amazon to become an IAS officer.

This was Himanshu’s third attempt for clearing the Civil Service Exam. Talking about his graduation, Himanshu added that he received an offer from the e-commerce giant after he finished his 3-month internship at Amazon.

It was during his internship that he realised that he wants to do something else. Himanshu then applied for the role of a manager with the Reserve Bank of India and worked there for some time. He added that his heart was elsewhere.

Himanshu said that he was always fascinated with the deputy commissioners that use to visit his school for inspection. Ever since then, he wanted to appear for the civil services examination.

He came to Delhi in order to prepare for the exam. In his first two attempts, Himanshu cleared the prelims but failed in the mains exam. Talking about his preparation, he said that he scored low marks in essay writing and worked hard at it for two years.

After having published various research papers in international journals, Himanshu struggled throughout his preparation. He didn’t give up after two attempts and continued to work hard in order to achieve his dreams.

As a computer science graduate, Himanshu plans to work hard in order to digitize India. He also wants to help the nation in introducing transparency.
