University Grants Commission (UGC) released new guidelines for the Undergraduate students of the recognized Indian Universities to compulsorily do a research internship of 8-10 weeks. This decision was taken after the announcement was made under NEP 2022. The primary aim of the internship program is to generate employability of students as well as in helping develop research capabilities of the candidates.
The Integration of Research, Innovation and Technology Development is the pillar of Atma-Nirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India), which is the key agenda of making the internship program compulsory for the UG students. As per the UGC guidelines, an institutionalization of Research Internship at the UG levels can play an important role to catalyze the interdisciplinary/ transdisciplinary/ multidisciplinary research culture in NEP 2020.
