Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University Hyderabad was established in the year 1982 through an Act of the A.P. State Legislature (APOU Act 1982) by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It was formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University. The university has been recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. It has also been approved by the National Council of Technical Education (NCTE) as well as the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Through a vast network of 213 study centres located in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including 23 regional coordination centres and 14 locations that do not accept female students, BRAOU Hyderabad offers services to students.
BRAOU Hyderabad courses areprovided to the interested candidates at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A total of 200+ courses across 10 different streams are offered to the candidates at the university. These courses areavailable in the stream of education, arts, science, commerce, and management in various specialisations. All the courses at the university are offered in open/ distance-learning mode. The BRAOU Hyderabad admission to all the courses isbased on the merit of the candidates in the last qualifying exam. For admission to some courses like BEd, MBA and others, the BRAOU Eligibility Test is considered by the university along with the minimum eligibility criteria. BRAOU Hyderabad courses are available to interested candidates at undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral levels. The courses are available in the stream of science, commerce, humanities, management, education and more. Generally, the undergraduate courses at BRAOU Hyderabad are 3 years, 2 years for the postgraduate courses and 3-5 years for the PhD courses. The BRAOU Hyderabad courses are offered in over 200 specialisations and 10 different streams. These courses are taught to the candidates in distance-learning mode. The courses are approved by both the National Council of Technical Education (NCTE) and the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
