Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University Hyderabad was established in the year 1982 through an Act of the A.P. State Legislature (APOU Act 1982) by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. It was formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University. The university has been recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. It has also been approved by the National Council of Technical Education (NCTE) as well as the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Through a vast network of 213 study centres located in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including 23 regional coordination centres and 14 locations that do not accept female students, BRAOU Hyderabad offers services to students.

BRAOU Hyderabad courses areprovided to the interested candidates at certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A total of 200+ courses across 10 different streams are offered to the candidates at the university. These courses areavailable in the stream of education, arts, science, commerce, and management in various specialisations. All the courses at the university are offered in open/ distance-learning mode. The BRAOU Hyderabad admission to all the courses isbased on the merit of the candidates in the last qualifying exam. For admission to some courses like BEd, MBA and others, the BRAOU Eligibility Test is considered by the university along with the minimum eligibility criteria. Additionally, TS/AP ICET is also accepted by the university for admission to MBA courses.

The BRAOU Hyderabad campus is spread over an area of 53.63 acres and offers various facilities like an Administrative and Support Services Block, Guest house, CSTD & GRADE building, Academic Branch, Science & Technology Multifunctional Labs (STML), EMR & RC and Library building, Study Material House, an extensive open plaza, a conference hall, Centre for Learner Services, Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge and an auditorium named after Late Sri Bhavanam Venkatram. As per the recent data, the placement rate at the university is 95%.

BRAOU Hyderabad courses are available to interested candidates at undergraduate, postgraduate as well as doctoral levels. The courses are available in the stream of science, commerce, humanities, management, education and more. Generally, the undergraduate courses at BRAOU Hyderabad are 3 years, 2 years for the postgraduate courses and 3-5 years for the PhD courses. The BRAOU Hyderabad courses are offered in over 200 specialisations and 10 different streams. These courses are taught to the candidates in distance-learning mode. The courses are approved by both the National Council of Technical Education (NCTE) and the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The BRAOU Hyderabad fees for the offered courses range between Rs 2,000 and Rs 18,000 annually. 

BRAOU Hyderabad campus is spread over an area of 53.6 acres and has everything a student will need for his or her overall development. The campus is found at Jubilee Hills within the heart of the capital city, Hyderabad. The University believes in providing scholars with the simplest environment for learning and, therefore, the most advanced infrastructure for professional growth. The BRAOU Hyderabad campus houses quite 120 special centers, classrooms complexes, student, faculty, and residential staff quarters, a healthcare center thats operational 24 hours, and an administration block. In addition, the campus is well equipped with a sports ground for indoor and outdoor games, a gym, ATM, library, mess, and shopping facilities.

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, since the start, has embraced the multimedia teaching-learning approach. The self-learning course material is supplemented and complemented with audio-video lessons and live teleconferences. The University features a well-equipped audio-visual production & research centre, which facilitates the delivery of technology-mediated courseware for the advantage of learners.

• Hostel: BRAOU Hyderabad hostel is spacious and well-furnished, with the availability of a large dining hall. The hostel has its live-in wardens and a faculty member who administers the accommodation. It is to be noted that admission to BRAOU doesn't ensure guaranteed hostel accommodation due to the limited capacity of the hostels.
• Gym: The gymnasium is part of BRAOU Hyderabad campus facilities. Students can take care of their health and fitness by making use of this gymnasium facility provided by the University. The gym is well equipped with exercise and training equipment. The gym helps the students to stay fit and healthy.
• Sports: The BRAOU campus has outdoor and indoor games facilities for students' recreation, including basketball, badminton, tennis courts, cricket, and football grounds. The campus sports ground also has a running track.  
• Cafeteria: The air-conditioned cafeteria facilities provided by the University include Indian and south Indian cuisines. There is another split cafeteria available for coffee and snacks on the campus. 
• Auditorium: BRAOU Hyderabad auditorium is used for academic talks, conferences, seminars, slides, and film shows, demonstrations, lectures, workshops, etc.
• Medical/ Hospital: The Health Centre at BRAOU Hyderabad, right from its inception in 1991, has been striving to provide comprehensive health care, i.e., preventive, curative, and promotive services to students only. However, for University staff, there is also a CGHS dispensary on the campus.
• Wifi: The University has high-speed wifi connectivity in all laboratories, libraries, hostels, auditoriums and seminar halls, and even guest houses. The campus has been using the new standard for next-generation wireless technology for wifi networks so that the teachers, students, and support staff can easily access the data, voice, multimedia, and video conferencing services as well as research, e-learning, and business applications.
• IT Infrastructure: BRAOU Hyderabad has set up facilities for in-house use of E-mail, Computers, and internet services for all students, project staff, and faculty members. This unit of the University offers a variety of E-services to the students in the context of literature search, computation, and graphics.
• Laboratories: BRAOU Hyderabad laboratories are equipped with various modern instrumental facilities inside them related to all the fields. They are sophisticated but well-equipped, and more than 40 students can perform their experiments simultaneously. The instruments available in the laboratory include a UV spectrophotometer: Double beam OD measurement, Magnetic stirrer, Multi-parameter: 6 parameters, namely pH, TDS, ORP, Salinity, Temp, millivolt, Hot air oven, and Digital oven, Rotary flask shaker, UV transilluminator, Dual Orbitex shaker with compressor and many more.
• Convenience stores: The BRAOU campus has a few departmental stores to facilitate students' daily shopping.
• Alumni Associations: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University is proud to have a collective of more than 1,00,000 alumni. They have been working as social scientists, scientists, literary critics, civil servants, media experts, journalists, foreign language experts, political leaders, technologists, social activists, entrepreneurs, and managers over the last 35 years and more. 
• Parking Facility: The University has a parking facility for students and staff.
• Guest Room: BRAOU campus has a guest house dedicated to accommodating official and unofficial guests of BRAOU Workshops, Seminars, Symposia, Conferences, Training Programmes, Organised by the University, its Centers or Departments, or others.
• Banks Facilities: BRAOU Hyderabad banking facilities include an SBI branch and its ATMs.
• Library: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University has many libraries as there are colleges and centers in the University with a broad collection of books on specialised areas.
• Bus Service: BRAOU provides bus service to students and faculties in and out of Hyderabad. Bus services are provided at regular intervals.
