5 Indian Student Innovators to Participate in Global Innovation Fest at South Korea

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will be conducting the Global Innovation Fest in partnership with the CCEI South Korea. Five teams have been shortlisted to partake in the Global Innovation Fest, competing with 100 startups located across the world.

The Global Innovation Fest, which is a joint venture between the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Daegu Centre for Creative Economy Innovation (CCEI) from the Government of South Korea, will be held till 5th November 2019. At the fest, 5 Indian student entrepreneurs cum innovators will be contesting against 100 other startups from across the world.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has been working tirelessly to shortlist and select teams which will be competing in the Global Innovation Fest. From the selection process, Mobile STP from CMR Institute of Technology in Bangalore, Live Easy Technology from Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh, PREG-V-DE from Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT Mumbai), Novorbis from Acropolis Institute of Technology and Grow Leaf from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur will be participating in the Global Innovation Fest 2019.

Professor Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE, stated that the selected teams have developed innovations and products in the domains of Environment, Affordable Health Care, Waste Management and Agriculture.

Sources state that the IIT Kharagpur startup, Grow Leaf, has worked upon an innovative agronomic device to help in intensive agriculture with localised pesticide delivery and irrigation for better water management and decreased pesticide utilization. Live Easy Technology has explored the areas of developing an automated ventilator “Breath-Er” that works using a bag-valve-mask, which facilitates an affordable, portable and reliable treatment during emergencies.

The PREG-V-DET is a device developed by ICT Mumbai for the purpose of detecting pregnancy at an early stage for cattle. Acropolis Institute of Technology’s Novorbis has developed a smart outdoor Air Purifier device which uses Nano-Electrical Filtration Technology, while Mobile STP from CMR Institute of Technology has developed a patented technology which will immediately cleanse and purify contaminated industrial and domestic water.

Mr Dipan Sahu, The Project in-Charge at HRD Ministry, stated that the Indian Teams will also be partaking in different interaction and mentoring sessions with the start-ups in Korea, which are incubated at the Keimyung University (KMU). They will also be given the opportunity to visit various innovation labs located in South Korea.

Mr Sahu further stated that the teams had been selected from over 1700 entries. The teams had to go through a meticulous selection process, out of which, these five teams were finally shortlisted.

The Chief Innovation Officer at MHRD, Dr Abhay Jere, stated that the Indian Startups that have been selected are believed to be the best student ideas among the entries. He added that the ministry will be taking every step possible to ensure that startups are incubated and mentored for a successful venture.

On 3rd November 2017, AICTE and CCEI signed a Memorandum of Understanding to boost global entrepreneurship while also ensuring a “cross border technology and innovation movement”. During the first Global Innovation Fest, 10 early-stage startups had the opportunity to partake in the competition.
