The courses which were once considered as one of the prime courses under Delhi University, B.A. Honours Economics and B.Com are having a tough time to attract admissions in 2019. The statistics show colleges like Hindu College, Lady Shri Ram, Miranda House, Kirori Mal College and Ramjas College which are considered as the top DU colleges have seen a dip in the admissions and is struggling to fill up the seats. On the other hand, B.A. courses lie History, English and Political Science have seen a steep rise in admissions.

The colleges have said that B.A. Political Science is a break-out course, however, it is shocking that B.Com and B.A. Economics are losing admissions at a large scale. Behind this, many suggest that the high cutoffs are the prime reasons which caused the interest of students to drop in these courses. Some suggest that the Civil Services is appealing a lot of students currently. This is also a reason to choose humanities over commerce.

In Kirorimal College alone. There are 93 seats left empty after the two cutoffs in B.Com and B.Com Honours Course. The reports suggest that there have been only 8 admissions in B.Com in Kirorimal College in the first cutoff. The college administration has started only general category admissions have been seen in the colleges so far.

The situation was similar in another prime level college. Hindu College has the highest cutoff prescribed for the political science course, still the political science course filled in the first cutoff only. The college saw a much smaller number of admissions in the commerce courses.

A faculty of Hindu College said that only 22 students in commerce and 24 in B.A. Economics got enrolled in the first cutoffs. Comparing to the admissions in the Political Science courses where 84 students took admissions, the number seems much lesser.

Many students believe that commerce courses block the part for them to become an IAS officer. Prof Sanjay Varma, a faculty of the English Department of Kirori Mal College has said that this is unfortunate that the students have been imposed with these thoughts. The university faculties do not encourage these kinds of concepts within the students.
