IISc Amongst Top 10 BRICS Universities
According to the QS BRICS University Rankings 2019, IISc is among the top 10 universities from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The list also includes IIT Bombay at the 8th position.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has made it to the top 10 institutes amongst 400 institutes in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) in the QS BRICS University Rankings 2019. It is released every year by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the largest higher education network in the world. Apart from IISc at the 10th position, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) also features in the list, at the 8th position.
China’s Tsinghua University, Peking University and Fudan University got the top three ranks. They are followed by the University of Science and Technology of China, Zhejiang University, Russia’s Lomonosov Moscow State University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, IITB and IISc.

Four other Indian institutes, namely, IIT, Madras; IIT, Delhi; IIT, Kharagpur and IIT, Kanpur have also managed to be among the top 25 institutes in the 2019 rankings. While IIT Madras is at the 17th position and IIT Delhi is at the 18th position, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Kanpur are at the 23rd and 25th position respectively. IISc, along with IITB, has been featured among the top 10 universities of the BRICS bloc for the fourth consecutive year now.

The BRICS University Rankings was launched with the release of the first-ever QS World University Rankings by Location. These rankings are curated based on various indicators such as the student-faculty ratio, the institution’s reputation among academics and employers and so on.
