Ministry of AYUSH Denies Permission to 27 Colleges in Karnataka

Due to poor infrastructure, the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) has withheld permission for certain Postgraduate and Undergraduate programs in 27 AYUSH Karnataka Colleges.

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), the affiliating university for these AYUSH colleges also issued a circular for all of theseyoga colleges in Karnataka state. Three of these 27 AYUSH colleges are from Bengaluru. Those three colleges include:

• Ramakrishna Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital and Research Centre

• Hillside Ayurveda Medical College

• Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine

The affiliating university i.e., RGUHS cited poor infrastructure and untrained faculty as the reason behind this denial of students enrollment in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the 27 AYUSH colleges.

Karnataka state has 65 unaided, 5 aided and 6 government AYUSH colleges that offer 3,890 seats, out of which, 1,176 seats are filled via the government quota. In order to apply for AYUSH colleges, candidates register themselves to the Karnataka AYUSHNEET counselling. The colleges offer programmes like BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery),Bachelor in Unani,Bachelor of Homeopathy, etc.

As per the official circular by the Government of India and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, students have been asked not to enroll themselves to these courses for the year 2019-20. The colleges must abide by the notification and work as per the directives of the government for the betterment. Now whether this denial leads to better consequences or not, that only time will tell.
