SPPU Signs MoU With IUCAA for Joint Research and Educational Programmes
SPPU and IUCAA have entered an alliance and signed an MoU for collaborative research and educational programmes, The universities will carry out programmes jointly in the subjects like Physics, Astronomy, Technology, etc.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA). The MoU has been entered in order to carry out collaborative research as well as development and teaching programmes in the subjects of Astronomy, Physics, Space Sciences, Astrophysics, Instrumentation, Atmospheric Sciences, Technology and some other areas. This news was revealed in an official notification that was announced by the SPPU.
Abhijit Ghorpade, who is the media officer at SPPU, talked about the collaboration and said that these programmes will be carried out jointly between the IUCAA and the Departments of Physics, Technology, Atmospheric and Space Sciences, Instrumentation Science, and Electronics of SPPU in areas of mutual interest. This collaboration will include the interaction between the faculty, students, scientific staff, and postdoctoral fellows of SPPU and IUCAA. The spaces for research and interaction will be created at the campuses of both SPPU and IUCAA.
The official statement that was released by the SPPU said that one of the major objectives of the MoU is identifying and establishing jointly taught courses at the levels of research and postgraduation leading to the degrees of Master of Science (M.Sc), Master of Technology (M.Tech), Doctorate (Ph.D) etc. It is expected that SPPU and IUCAA will identify and establish other teaching programmes and joint collaborations in future that will fall under the umbrella of this MoU.

The Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, Nitin Karmalkar, gave a written statement regarding this in which he mentioned that Savitribai Phule Pune University has a vast number of bright students. These students need courses that fit according to the current day challenges. Hence, such MoUs and collaborated programmes will help students in taking up the challenges faced by the world today and will also prepare them for the same. Karmalkar made it emphatic that the need to work on such collaborations has increased with the changing scenario.
The Director of IUCAA, Somak Raychaudhary, also gave a written statement in which he declared that it has been about three decades that both of these educational bodies have been working collaboratively for academic purposes. Through this new MoU, they will now work on joint research projects. With time, India is getting involved in several national as well as international research projects which is the reason why a lot of emphasis is being given on the research quality produced by institutes. Numerous research institutes are opening up across the country in order to work with the top universities. The IUCAA is working on the same lines with Savitribai Phule Pune University.

SPPU has received several accolades recently, from being speculated to get the IoE tag and being among the top universities in the world to starting four new streams in the B.Tech course. The university has been constantly upgrading its quality of education and has made a mark in several global rankings as well.
