‘Star 30’ Initiative of District Collector Helps Students Make it to NITs
PV Karan IAS - District College of Macherial District, Telangana has launched 'Star 30' initiative to provide intensive coaching to JEE, NEET and TS EAMCET to underprivileged and economically backward students in Mancherial district.
Super 30run by Mr. Anand Kumar in Bihar is widely popular for its initiative of offering freeIIT entrance examcoaching to underprivileged students who make it to the IITs. There are other such institutes which offer JEE coaching to underprivileged students in other states of the country as well. Among these is‘Star 30’, an initiative of a District Collector of Mancherial in Telangana, Mr. RV Karan.
RV Karan IAS has launched a novel initiative called ‘Star 30’ to provide freeJEEandNEETcoaching to underprivileged students pursuing intermediate ingovernment junior collegesacross the district of Mancherial. He was inspired by a similar initiative that was launched in Adilabad district in 2015.

For forming the first batch of Star 30, RV Karan selected 18 meritorious students from 12 government colleges and three meritorious students government model schools located in all mandals of Mancherial district. He associated with District Intermediate Education Officer and other private institutes to engage experienced lecturers to train these students forJEEandNEET. The intensive coaching programme took place from mid-December 2017 to April 2018.
All the expenses associated with coaching were borne by RV Karan. Out of 21 students, 11 students qualified JEE Mains 2018 while seven students performed well inTS EAMCET 2018.
Among the three students selected from government model schools were: -
- Banoth Umamaheswari, a girl from Lambada category secured admission inNIT Warangal.
- Banoth Vineela, a girl from the same category secured admission inNIT Surat.
- Renu Ravinder secured admission inIIIT Nagpur.
All these three students are fromTS Government Model School, Lingapur.
Seven students who were trained for JEE Mains and TS EAMCET secured admission in top engineering colleges in Telangana. All these students hail from economically backward classes. The financial condition of these students was a major barrier to making it to premier institutes. Therefore, PV Karan has decided to provide free coaching to these students so that they can study at top institutes across the country.

Apart from providing quality coaching, PV Karan extended a financial support of Rs. 37,000 to each of three students who made it to NIT and IIIT. He also presentedlaptopsto these students.
PV Karan confirmed that he would continue to provide intensive coaching for JEE, NEET and TS EAMCET to underprivileged and economically backward students in Mancherial district.
