IIITs, IITs- Indian Institute of Technology and NITs- National Institute of Technology fails to fill their seats, there are still almost 1518 seats vacant in NITs, 73 in IITs and 1174 in GFTIs. The counselling has ended but these many seats are still empty which is concerning the authorities.
JoSAA short for Joint Seat Allocation Authority was conducting counselling for the technology institutes. It has found that out of the total, 38 seats are of IIT-BHU alone.
On the other hand, following institutes have closed admission:
It is a high possibility that another round of counselling will be conducted because wasting seats is not an option and following are the details of the colleges with seats:
- NIT-Surat-115 seats
- NIT-Jalandhar-110 seats
- ISM-Indian School of Mines- 23 seats
- IIT-BHU-78 seats

Seats are empty in the courses which are not profitable in the future. Research shows that 80 percent of engineers are unemployable nowadays which makes one think can be the reason behind these empty seats.
Authorities are trying everything to fill the seats and at the same time, they are not able to believe that it is happening because engineering is one of the more popular courses in India.
So, this just leaves us with one question which is: is engineering not the first choice anymore?
