CSIR UGC NET exam

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken over command and will be conducting the CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) NET (National Eligibility Test) 2019 examination. Due to the exam being conducted by a new body now, some changes in the exam pattern are inevitable. The first exam of CSIR NET that will be held by the NTA is scheduled in the month of December 2019.

The CSIR UGC (University Grants Commission) NET exam is conducted in order to determine the eligibility of candidates for lecturership and those who wish to make a career as a teacher. It is also responsible for awarding the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Mathematical Sciences, Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Atmospheric, Earth, Ocean and Planetary Sciences.

The NTA has already announced the schedule for CSIR NET 2019 on its official website. CSIR NET 2019 will be held on 15th December 2019 this year. The CSIR NET 2019 application process will commence on 9th September 2019 and end on 9th October 2019.

A major change that has been introduced by the NTA in the pattern of CSIR UGC NET 2019 exam is that it will not be conducted in the paper-based mode anymore. The exam will be carried out entirely in the online mode and will be computer-based. The duration of CSIR UGC NET 2019 has not been confirmed by the NTA yet but going by the structural changes in the pattern of UGC NET, it has been deduced that similar changes can be expected in the case of CSIR NET as well. Until the CSIR NET exam of June 2019, the pattern comprised an MCQ (Multiple Choice type Questions) paper which had three parts among which Part A had 20 questions on general aptitude and was common for all streams.

The structure of UGC NET used to be on similar lines in which the ‘Paper 1’ had 60 questions of which the candidates were to answer any 50. When CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) passed on the UGC NET exam to NTA, the authority kept the total number of questions in the paper to 50 and each question was made compulsory. It is expected that NTA may introduce a structure similar to this for the Part A of CSIR UGC NET exam 2019.

The NTA also discontinued the practice of two subject-specific papers in the UGC NET exam and kept only one paper that was subject-specific. A similar change can be brought about in the CSIR NET exam.
