IIT Guwahati and Kyoto Institute of Technology in Japan have collaborated together to host the fifth edition of the International Symposium on Advances in Sustainable Polymers. The Symposium will be held at KIT Japan between 14th and 18th Oct 2019.

IIT-G International Symposium

An International Symposium will be held in collaboration between the Indian Institute of Technolgy Guwahati (IIT-G) and the Kyoto Institute of Technology. The International Symposium will be conducted on Advances in Sustainable Polymers (ASP-19) between 14th October 2019 and 18th October 2019.

As per the agreement, the International Symposium will be held at Kyoto Institute of Technology Matsigasaki, Sakyo-Ku, Kyoto in Japan. Sources state that the ASP-19 is the fifth edition of the International Symposium for Advances in Sustainable Polymers.

Sustainable Polymers are plastics that have been developed using materials from biomass, intended to keep the environment safe of harmful man-made substances. These substances are meant to cause no harm during their production nor during their disposal. Sustainable Polymers are made to be recycled in an environmentally-friendly manner and reduce the adverse effects on the environment, consumers and producers.

Biological sources such as algae, plants and other biomass waste products are some of the ingredients that are used to produce sustainable polymers. This, in turn, results in reducing the risk of damaging the environment with pollution while also maintaining the health of our environment.

Prof Vimal Katiyar, IIT Guwahati Coordinator at the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Polymers emphasised on the importance of the International Symposium on ASP. He stated that ASP-19 will be a platform for discussing the various global environmental pollution which is caused due to the usage of synthetic plastics. The symposium is aimed at creating a way for the “effective utilization of sustainable polymers”.

Prof Katiyar further added that different scientists working on developing different biodegradable plastics across the world will attend the symposium. He adds that these scientists will offer their keynote address regarding the new developments in the various field of developing biodegradable plastics, like their extraction, synthesis, processing as well as their development into valuable products.
